James Coaching in Action

1-1 Coaching in Action

I hope you enjoyed listening to the  1-1 coaching in action session with Kelly, and that it gave you a flavour for what coaching is and is not.  Today you get to see a very different flavour of session, with James.  I admire James for his deep thinking and desire to do his best by everyone around him.  In this session, he works through how to have a conversation with a colleague.

It’s 30 minutes of 1-1 coaching in action; and technology failed us towards the end, when I had a power cut, so we reverted to phone, which means that you can only hear his answers, not my questions.  But if you do watch it that far, the questions were as follows:

Where are you now?
How succinct and professional is that?
Is that culturally appropriate?
And culturally appropriate for her?
Where is your level of anxiety now on a scale of 0-10?
How could you get it to 0?
At the beginning, you said you wanted x and y, are you there?

If you are a coach, you will notice the following International Coach Federation competencies in particular:
Establishing the Coaching Agreement
Establishing Trust and Intimacy
Coaching Presence
Active Listening
Powerful Questioning
Direct Communication
Creating Awareness
Designing Actions
